Almost living debt free

So in a few months time my husband and I will be living debt free for the first time since we met, I am super excited :)

When we started dating he was already heavily in debt and he wasn’t helping himself, adding to it rather than clearing it – I tried to talk him round but it’s hard to change someones habits of a lifetime. At one stage before we moved in together his debts were nearly cleared, but buying the house and renovating it put us back a few steps – no where near the amount of debt he was in when we met, but another 3 or 4 years worth to pay off.

At this point I also took charge of our finances and rather than trying to convince him to change his habits I kicked his backside if he spent anything I hadn’t budgeted for – sure it made for some rows along the way and I hated being the ‘nagging wife’ but he knows it was necessary. We go an i.v.a. which helped out dramatically and now, come June 1st 2010 when our last payment is due (assuming no disaster occur before then!). we will officially be living debt free :)

Clothes shopping :)

On Tuesday I am doing my favourite thing in the world ever, I am going clothes shopping – and as an added bonus I am going with my mom :)

I have a shopping list the size of my arm in my head but I am hoping to not have to spend a fortune, I am going to be all about the bargains and I do already have a few discount codes and vouchers to use.

Things that I absolutely need are some sparkly shoes and a fancy dress for a party I am going to on Thursday (a friends 30th, there are going to be a lot of those this year!) and a new coat, I did get one at Christmas but I changed my mind about liking it and took it back last week.

I hope I will be able to get them all in town, but if not I will just get them from the SimplyBe Women’s Clothing range online.

I’d also like to get some new skinny jeans, some combats, some leggings and maybe some nice lingerie for valentines day :)

Skinny Hubby

My dear husband used to have to go to specialist shops to buy large menswear as he is very tall (which is amusing to most people as I am very short, we do look rather odd as a couple!) and at one stage but on quite a bit of weight.

He’s now lost the excess weight and is back to being the skinny boy I met all those years ago. I am very proud of him, but also annoyed and jealous at how quickly he was dropping the weight – he was losing in a week what it took me 2 months to lose.

The main things he did was simply cut out alcohol and excess salt, he also did at least 30 minutes of exercise per day.

Now he can shop at regular shops again (although he still struggled to get pants that fit his long legs!) and is looking as hot as ever :)

Adventures in the UK

When I was in the UK visiting family recently I went to several towns and cities across the country, we’d been lucky enough to grab some bargain hotel rooms (£1 – £9!!) in a sale so we went to some very random places – we went to some nice places like Liverpool and went on the big wheel they had there and visited the Beatles museum. We also went to York for some shopping in the Queensgate shopping centre and a play on the Slot Games in the Quicksilver arcade there. We also went to Newcastle and let some flying lanterns off on the beach which was very nice and romantic, a trip away doesn’t seem like a real trip away without seeing the sea :)

We also went to some not so great places, like Wakefield and Bradford which were both total dumps to be honest. Really run down places with nothing special about them, I didn’t take a photo in either place and given that I am a total shutterbug that is really saying something – but the rooms only cost £1, were nice and clean and both were near to where my parents live so it was still an experience worth taking.

I’d rather give it a try than not!

Making Plans

So, the big day is getting closer – little old me is turning 30 in just under 2 months time.

I had been tossing around various ideas to celebrate the big day, including the idea of not celebrating it at all and just hiding under a rock until it’s over. In the end I have decided I want to do something, I just don’t know what yet.

We’re seriously considering going paintballing, aside from the fact we have done it before and it’s a lot of fun because we like playing with our airsoft guns and basically beating each other – it’s also a great way of getting some exercise which is always a plus in my eyes.

However as we have done it before I am questioning if it’s ‘special’ enough.

We’ve also considered taking a hot air balloon ride, going abroad for a few nights with some friends, going camping/hiking and so much more.

Basically we need to hurry up and decide so we can start making plans, but we are having a very hard time coming to a decision.

Happy with my host

When you need a new web hosting provider it can be a bit of a nightmare, where do you even start in looking for one?

I am glad that I am happy with my webhost at the moment, I have moved several times over the years and hated it every single time – I have been with my current host for almost two years now and so far so good. There has been a few minor issues along the way but I think that’s to be expected – it’s how it’s dealt with that is important to me and it’s always been dealt with professionally and quickly :)

Hopefully I have not just jinxed it and I will be able to stay with them for many more years to come.

Web hosting review sites come in handy when you do need to move to a new host though, they take a lot of the research work out of it for you – I always try to find sites that offer reviews and ratings from real people as well, it’s one thing reading ‘facts’ about what someone claims to offer, it’s another actually hearing what it’s customers have to say.

I’ll make it there, one day!

I have been to many places in my life, I have lost count of the amount of countries I have visited and as you know I spent the first 20 years of my life living in the UK – with friends and family still there I return often.

Yet I have never been to London.

Isn’t that odd? Before I moved away for the first time I had not really been bitten by the travel bug, but you’d think I would have made the effort to go there on one of my many return trips over the years.

It’s not like I am not interested in visiting either, I would love to visit the East End and the main capital to do all the touristy things like visit Madam Tussauds, Buckingham Palace and The London Eye and I would love to visit the Quicksilver arcade and Westfield shopping center in nearby Shepherds Bush.

I suppose the issue is that when I go home I love to spend time with my friends and family, and they expect it of me – if I returned and told them I’d only be staying a day or two as I then planned to go off travelling more I don’t think it would go down too well.

It’s a compliment really, but I am determined to get there one day :)

Well hello there…

…I get to see my husband tonight for the first time in about 12 days :)

To say I am excited is an understatement, I have missed him so much – however in a strange way it was sort of nice. When we first got together we were in a long distance relationship, for four years. So it sort of reminded me of our earlier years together and I found us doing things we had not done for many years, like chatting on the phone for longer than 30 seconds and we even had a few webcam sessions via MSN.

I wouldn’t want us to be apart for so long on a regular basis, but it was actually quite good fun at times :)

Catching up on music videos

When I move to my new Internet Service Provider, hopefully I will be able to watch Music Videos again! Honestly I have missed being able to do a lot of things over the last month or so that I have been having issues, but being able to stream videos on sites like Youtube and Spotify is probably the thing I have missed most – it was taking around 3 – 4 minutes to download 1 minute worth of video, how ridiculous is that?

I’ve missed out on a lot of new music videos so I can’t wait to get caught up.

A good result

I am so happy today I could explode, after several weeks of my cable company refusing to budge they have now agreed to let me out of my contract with them – it’s been a nightmare time for using the Internet as my connection has been so poor it’s just been frustrating to be online rather than enjoyable.

I actually gave up hope and thought I would be stuck with them until July, so I have no idea who I am going to move to – but I am going to spend the rest of the day doing my research and finding out. The sooner I am out of there the better.
